Latest Release - Shaka

Western narratives often overlook the fierce conquerors of Africa, Shaka Zulu stands tall as the continent's most legendary warrior.

Growing up in the very region where Shaka Zulu once held sway, the decision to embark on a warrior series naturally led me to this iconic figure. In the wake of South Africa's hit TV series gaining widespread acclaim, the timing felt opportune to ride the waves of its success and pay homage to Shaka Zulu. This project was more than a visual endeavor; it was a tribute to a man who transformed a mere 10,000 into an indomitable force of over a quarter of a million, leaving an indelible mark across Southern Africa.

To bring this vision to life, I needed a warrior – enter Phakela, a man who embodies the essence of strength and leadership. Holding the esteemed position of commander and earning the respect of the Zulu royal family, he leads an army of over 10,000 with unwavering dedication.

Our quest for the perfect shot unfolded amidst challenging conditions, with Phakela's insistence that we capture the essence of the journey I had undertaken from Los Angeles. As we faced the wrath of a Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal thunderstorm, the intensity mirrored the historical weight of the narrative playing out before us.

This image holds a profound significance for me, extending beyond the visual spectacle. It captures the vulnerability of a warrior as formidable as my subject, standing alone in the rain – a poignant metaphor for the struggles and solitude that echo in the lives of many.
